Earth Stood Still Record Release Party @ The Silent Barn

EarthStoodStill/AndThisArmy

Fresh from Austin, TX (check out the killer video of Dan Deacon and his horde of wild kids trespassing their asses off at the dance party Todd P. threw behind the local AMTRAK Station!) and having just acquired our first show-related NYPD summons for throwing this out-of-control pasty-white indie-rock / blunt-smokin’-reggae mashup party with some Rasta friends out in Crown Heights on Friday, The Rats Of NiMH are pumped to pull out all the stops this weekend for the long-awaited release of one of the original shake-the silverware-off-the-kitchen-table Brooklyn rock band’s debut CDs: The Earth Stood Still.

You know the know the deal at The Silent Barn. $2 beers, $4 mixers. Fuckin’ A (for ALL fucking AGES).

[ EARTH STOOD STILL ]
“Born out of fire and desperation, out of the need for a savior in rock music, Earth Stood Still comes hurdling out of the abyss with a sound both bound in the past and portentious of things to come. The sounds are familiar, even traditional, at first: Lisa Apatini’s banshee wail and bluesy growls, Gabriel Marin’s thunderous and vivid guitar, Lou Miller’s apocalyptic drum grooves and Evan Burke’s spine-mangling bassisms. Songs as dense and thematically grandiose as classical music, serpentine melodies and blazing solos soaked in Middle Eastern mysticism, and an earth-shaking funk capable of taking full possession of the booty even in the midst of heartbreaking verses. Lyrics that are both intensely personal and abstractly fantastical. Humor and sorrow. Joy and rage. Forgiveness and revenge. Earth Stood Still have come for your hearts, and your minds. All we ask is that you come to rock.” - Earth Stood Still

[ AND THIS ARMY ]
“… really good schmeary sonics — very imaginative, and real songwriting to boot! All too rare. I look forward to more.” - Clint Conley, Mission of Burma

“Dissonance, dissonance, and a little more dissonance. That is the name of the game with And This Army. The guitars are laid on thick and hazy, layered in stacks upon stacks. The vocals ride in the midst of this jumble of noise, juxtaposing the confusion with just the slightest touch of pop sensibility.” - Mish Mash Music Reviews [ http://mashmusic.tripod.com/ ]

[ THE LUNGS ]
“Neo-soul garage outfit” - The Lungs

[ PALL MALL JETPACK ]
“Nick and Justin went to high school together really close to where the World Trade Center exploded. I forget why, but they decided they were Pall Mall and Jetpack like 6 months before it became a band. I think it was supposed to be like super hero alter egos. Or are Nick and Justin the alter egos? So, this one time, Nick did a shotgun, and said some stuff, then Justin started playing guitar and they were like “We should start a band!” A couple days later Matt heard about it and said “Yeah! I got a drum set why not?” About a year later Nick and Alex got pretty drunk and then Alex became the bass player even though he doesn’t own a bass. Now those totally cool dudes write songs and learn how to play them in Nicks basement. Sometimes they even play them for other people!” - Pall Mall Jetpack

We dream of un-confiscated forties, shit-cheap liquor off a plywood bar, smoking inside, bands in the backyard, in the basement, in the bathtub. Out of necessity, we do shows at venues that are pretty lenient by New York standards, but in a perfect world every show would happen at home (in this city of eternal roommates). To get to the nitty-gritty, if you have a space, and think music forcefully shoved inside might work for us both, drop us an email. We can use all shapes and sizes, from pretty little alleyways or back porches for an acoustic kind of good time, or an industrial-looking basement for around 100 kids to spazz the fuck out in…
