[ INFO. ]
[ THE BEETS ]
“The band known as The Beets got their start a long time ago when your mother was still a hippie. Juan and Jose would go skinny dipping by themselves every Saturday at Huntsman Woods. Eventually, they introduced themselves to each other. While chatting up a storm as they dried themselves after an afternoon of swimming, Juan and Jose exchanged a mutual liking of music and revealed that they both played instruments. They immediately exchanged AOL screen names. Later that week, Jose’s cocaine dealer who he saw every morning at the breakfast table—and whom he called dad—introduced Jose to a new buyer/addict. Her name was Anna. She apparently played drums “or some shit like that,” Jose’s father—or shall I say dealer—put it. Jose called her up one night with Juan and played a couple of basement shows and Jose’s grandmother’s 85th birthday party with her. It turns out that she owed money to some mega-asshole named Pacoco. Next thing you know, there was some 2:00 a.m. frantic phone call made, a bloody ransom note, a lock of hair, half a pinky finger, yadda-yadda, Anna’s still missing. To fill the void left by Anna’s absence, Juan and Jose ended up using this guy by the name of Ben on drums. He was the original singer of the Sugar Ray tribute band Ray’s Sugar. Juan and Jose were big fans. “Hey, you have a pretty rocking voice, why not play drums for us?” Juan asked. It was that simple. Ben said yes, and quit his band. Don’t be surprised if you catch a Beets show and a Sugar Ray song accidentally slips into their set. So there it is. Three lovely lads: Juan on lead vocals and lead guitar, Jose on lead bass, and Ben on lead drums. What the fuck else do you want? Catchy melodies, three hunks, and the tightest jeans your mother would approve of. Bask in the music of The Beets. Your parents will like them, too. Listen to their songs and feel free to see them the next time they play a show at your house.”

[ NOAH BRITTON (of THE BEST THING EVER) ]
“Last spring, three Boston University kids revived an inactive side-project they’d once worked on together called The Best Thing Ever. The reunion was a one-off resuscitation strictly to actualize a simple idea: a secret bathroom tour. So guitarist Alex Billig, cellist/percussionist Jen Page, and vocalist Noah Britton quietly announced their plans on a LiveJournal page, made T-shirts, and forwarded their guerrilla-tour info to a few friends. Then during finals week, they showed up to potties around New England for 12 consecutive days to unnerve Boston’s (easily spooked) pee-goers by performing stall-side until someone inevitably kicked them out.”

[ NICOLE SCHNEIT (of AIR WAVES) ]
“Most new acts with a footing in the folk tradition tend to embrace the serene and the fragile, but one gets the feeling that Brooklyn’s quirky Air Waves broke away from the pack long ago. Singer/guitar player Nicole Schneit tears through her stilted, acoustic punk like a bull in the china shop—more than a languid fairy on a lily pad—and that suits me just fine.” JOSH BLANCHARD (Portland Mercury April 2006)
