VBS / Hollywood / Tall Turdz / The Beets / Statebird @ Grand Central

So, first we took the dirtiest band we could find in Baltimore, and brought them to Brooklyn. Then they say, no, you’ve got it wrong, THIS is the dirtiest band in Baltimore, and there were two Baltimore bands in Brooklyn. They’re friends Tall Turds soon joined the fray, and this sweet new dive bar on Grand and Manhattan decided to host the night.

They this pretty little band of wood-nypmh folk kids needed a bill, and it wasn’t long before they had been ushered, unknowingly, into this dark forest of dirty garage. A guide was needed, and The Beets heeded the call, to light the way as one strange genre melded into the next.

The Beets of course, have no drummer right now. But apparently in the meantime, Juan has learned to play guitar and drum at the same time.

We all shall see. We all shall see.

[ INFO. ]

[ VINCENT BLACK SHADOW ] aka VBS
“For those obsessed by the clod-hopping numbness of power trio-period Grand Funk Railroad, you gots to check out VBS (named after my late mate Pete DeFreitas’ fave ever motorcycle, by the way). As well as achieving early Blue Cheer-levels of whiny inept twin lead guitar bile, they’ve got that fabulous dry drum sound so beloved of Grand Funk engineer Ken Hamann, who would later take his clumsy expertise to exert the same for Scott Krauss on Pere Ubu’s early albums. Singer Adam emotes as hoary and as hairy as the mad mountainmen mouthpieces of ‘69 legends Dragonfly and Josephus. This is essential shit, motherfuckers.” - http://headheritage.com

[ HOLLYWOOD ]
“It’s so noisy and punk rock it hurts. They have late-80s Alternative Tentacles or AmRep written all over em. Think of Pissed Jeans’ material on Parts Unknown with a hint of the Cows or the Unsane mixed in for good measure. Some good advice: “Don’t talk to strangers/They’ll kill or rape ya.” There’s a phenomenon called synaesthesia where input to one sense triggers sensation in another. Well, I’m a bit of a synaesthete when I listen to this. When I hear this, I smell post-masturbation saliva on my hand, fireworks, and sweaty feet. Fucking awesome.” - http://rocketreducer.com

[ TALL TURDZ ]
Rock as dirty as it sounds. Don’t say you were surprised.

[ THE BEETS ]
“The band known as The Beets got their start a long time ago when your mother was still a hippie. Juan and Jose would go skinny dipping by themselves every Saturday at Huntsman Woods. Eventually, they introduced themselves to each other. While chatting up a storm as they dried themselves after an afternoon of swimming, Juan and Jose exchanged a mutual liking of music and revealed that they both played instruments. They immediately exchanged AOL screen names. Catchy melodies, two hunks, and the tightest jeans your mother would approve of. Bask in the music of The Beets. Your parents will like them, too. Listen to their songs and feel free to see them the next time they play a show at your house.” - The Beets

[ STATEBIRD ]
“State Bird forges deeper into their folk/country roots, summoning joyous revivals and invoking hallowed tribal dirges, while vacant guitars and drunken choirs lament the extinction of an age when life was sacred and man was grateful. Join the chorus.” - Statebird

We dream of un-confiscated forties, shit-cheap liquor off a plywood bar, smoking inside, bands in the backyard, in the basement, in the bathtub. Out of necessity, we do shows at venues that are pretty lenient by New York standards, but in a perfect world every show would happen at home (in this city of eternal roommates). To get to the nitty-gritty, if you have a space, and think music forcefully shoved inside might work for us both, drop us an email. We can use all shapes and sizes, from pretty little alleyways or back porches for an acoustic kind of good time, or an industrial-looking basement for around 100 kids to spazz the fuck out in…
