Barn Benefit + House-Warming Shows!

In case you didn’t see this yet —> The Silent Barn needs your help!
The Silent Barn’s in a bunch of debt, and being friends and all, a whole buncha BK kids are helping out by throwing the first of benefit shows. This is the kind of thing you do for your friends, and if you have friends in need (now, or someday), do the same. If you love The Silent Barn, coming out for this big upstairs/downstairs deal-y would be an awesome way to 1) enjoy yourself Friday evening and 2) show it.
In other news, Joe (me) just moved into Death By Audio for the month. I’m currently in my sleeping bag in a room with basically nothing else. There’s already a really cool show happening on Saturday that I put together with really etheral and pretty band Hologram and their Baltimore counterparts Teeth Mountain. Since I’m living here, it’s kinda like a house-warming show! Come crack a Natty Ice with me in that place where I already always am, for symbolism’s sake!
A ridiculous amount of band info is at the bottom, if you need more.

[ ARTWORK. ]
[ Joe from The Rats Of NiMH made the barn benefit flier, but then he got to Other Music today and saw a million other fliers made earlier and better by Michael Jordan. They’re the best (but don’t seem to be on the internet anywhere). The crayon-y one is by Hologram. Sweet! Check out SleepWhenDeadNYC for more info about this and many other upcoming DIY + all ages shows out in Brooklyn. ]

[ INFO ]
[ Fiasco ]
“God Loves Fiasco, a 23-song debut on the band’s own Beautiful imprint, is a startlingly good way to get your teenage kicks…. Incendiary guitar work, drum thrashing and perceptive lyrics… echo everyone from a hormone-drenched Sonic Youth to a youthful-sounding Slint. Standout “Nothing to Lose” trods on classic indie rock aesthetic a la Pavement… proving that punk rock and teenage boys go together like PB & J.” - Spin

[ Michael Jordan ]
“Of course, Necking may have deferred any mid-set-wrestling tendencies they might have had seeing as opener Michael Jordan had already covered that ground pretty decisively, as well as doing a pretty thorough job of proving that moshing and singing are not mutually exclusive. While both Michael Jordan and co-openers No One and the Somebodies (the only band I can think of that is currently based in Westchester) created similar levels of noise-rock frenzy, the former came off as more strongly rhythmic (they are one of the growing current crop of bands to make use of dual drummers) and the latter as more melodic (occasionally dropping out the crackle of guitar to allow keyboard arpeggios some room to breath).” - Impose

[ Le Rug ]
“A pop music exorcism. Ray Weiss (also from Hundred Dollar Elephant and The Medics) channels post-punk fire from somewhere mysterious inside of himself. He must be hollow, because it couldn’t possible fit anywhere else. Double-drum dance solos, electric keyboard freakouts, tearing apart his guitar until he looks like he’s going to vomit… Le Rug starts off every set by doing a nose dive off the roof’s edge, and just keeps gaining speed until the whole room goes splat.” - SleepDead

[ Dinowalrus ]
In an attempt to capture some of the spontaneity of their improvisational period, retain the complex spatiality of their recordings, and transcend the limited sonic palette that plagues most three-piece bands, Dinowalrus re-invents its instrumentation with every song. Some tunes feature dueling guitar interplay between Pete and Kyle, some feature Kyle frantically playing the bass, sampler and synthesizer simultaneously, and others revolve around Josh drumming toe-to-toe with a phat electronic beat. The band relies heavily on the use of self-sustaining electronic devices to expand its sound, including an optical theremin, a sampler, and a 1983 Roland analogue synth named “Marc Bolan”.

[ Slasher Risk ]

[ Totally Dad ]
“With a penchant for one-word titles and few perceptible words, the band plays a jagged punk in several shattered pieces, starting with the exhilarating guitar/shout skronk edging on some pre-math constructions with lots of cymbals, yelping, and no electronics. Expending all their distortion in two fuzzy minutes, a wealth of jangly guitar trickles past, the dry hum of fiddled sawing and bassy warmth renews that Saturday morning taste for just the right undertones of discord to unite it into a sustainable collection.” AnimalPSI

[ Donkey Flamingo ]
“Twitchy hand-knobbled electronic dance stuff with that atmospheric kick. Watch ‘n sway, then start following your feet…” - SleepDead

MySpace —> http://myspace.com/donkeyflamingo
[ Hologram ]
“Eerie songs about summer and sweet things, maybe? Hard to tell through wispy vocals… drummer girl is singer girl and then there are all the CDs with handdrawn leaves/raindrops” - SleepDead
MySpace —> http://www.myspace.com/hologrammm
[ Teeth Mountain ]
“Fuck! Awesome electronic bizzaro shit from Baltimore - you know, that city where all the good music comes from? Here’s some of it.”
MySpace —> http://www.myspace.com/teethmountain
[ Family Of Love ]
“…also from Baltimore. But they have a video, so just indulge a few moments.” - SleepDead

[ Prince Rama of Ayodhya ]
“Fueled by Taraka’s chameleon-like songwriting, then expounded by Nimai’s tribal drumming and Michael’s sci-fi synth lines, each song became transformed into a sonic safari taking listeners through the celestial residue and archaeological constellations of a timeless civilization pining for self realization, while still remaining faithful to anthemic melodies that could haunt the hearts of kings. The resulting sound is a wandering mutt from the house of psyche-folk, campfire surrealism, and experimental pop.” - Band
MySpace —> http://www.myspace.com/princeramaofayodhya
[ Hard Bop ]
John Chavez (of The Punksss and The Silent Barn!) making things happen you didn’t think would happen with a bazillion pedals, a cardboard pedal board, and a guitar. All before he runs home to run a show w/ OCDJ. That’s called D.E.D.I.C.A.T.I.O.N.” - SleepDead
