Titus Andronicus / The Screaming Females / The So So Glos / Dinowalrus / Sal Feathers & The Birdcage @ Death By Audio

“When you’re from New Brunswick, no matter what kind of music you play, you’re a punk band.” - Jarett (of Screaming Females + The Parlor)
This Friday is FUCKING AWESOME. That’s right, I’m cursing. You can check Showpaper, and you’ll see that there’s a bunch of stuff going on. It’s a big weekend. There’s great shows all over the place. I’m not scared to tell you all that.
That’s because Titus Andronicus is finally back from their winter tour, and wanna come home to sweaty warm room full of ruckus and friends, so The So So Glos have jumped on the bill as well, as well as Sal Feathers, and Dinowalrus. And as if that wasn’t enough, THE SCREAMNG FEMALES.

[ INFO ]
[ TITUS ANDRONICUS ]
“I first saw Titus Andronicus on the third floor of a Durham music venue normally reserved for goth and electro throwdowns. It was June and it was hot, the sort of North Carolina night where you hope sweat is sexy because, really, that’s all you’ve got. Titus hit the stage at 9:00 p.m., already pretty drunk and snappy. Like the Hold Steady sans two decades, the five members took half-can hits of beer every time they could get a hand off of an instrument. Frontman Patrick Stickles was falling all over his keyboard two furious takes in, belligerently puffing on a cigar as he played one-hand piano. Still, they hit every mark, nailing noise and debris against shake-and-sing anthems. That’s Titus Andronicus’ ploy– aggressing and endearing audiences as a completely ramshackle crew of Jersey drunks, while somehow triumphing through perfectly clangorous pop songs.” - PitchforkMedia

[ SCREAMING FEMALES ]
“The star of the band is guitarist Marissa Paternoster; aside from being the designated screaming female, she pulls out the stops on scorching guitar solos in nearly every song. She’s not afraid to get down and toy with her effects pedals, at times making a cacophonous clatter a la Sonic Youth, but ultimately her trick is straight-up guitar-hero stuff. The Females’ rhythm section consists of bassist Mike Rickenbacker and drummer Jarrett Dougherty, holding down danceable post-punk beats behind songs that range from blues-derived to nearly disco-like, echoing The Slits in their more dub-influenced days.” - http://pittsburghcitypaper.ws

[ THE SO SO GLOS ]
“I cant wait to see The So So Glos in flagstaff on december 12…..i saw them in NYC a year ago and they were *bleep*ing amazing live. This country needs more great music like what this band delivers in the rawest form — how can rock-n-roll be dead if so so glos are forever?” - Some random kid in Arizona.

[ DINOWALRUS ]
In an attempt to capture some of the spontaneity of their improvisational period, retain the complex spatiality of their recordings, and transcend the limited sonic palette that plagues most three-piece bands, Dinowalrus re-invents its instrumentation with every song. Some tunes feature dueling guitar interplay between Pete and Kyle, some feature Kyle frantically playing the bass, sampler and synthesizer simultaneously, and others revolve around Josh drumming toe-to-toe with a phat electronic beat. The band relies heavily on the use of self-sustaining electronic devices to expand its sound, including an optical theremin, a sampler, and a 1983 Roland analogue synth named “Marc Bolan”.
